History
The castle was the ancestral seat and summer residence of the princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. The baroque complex occupies a narrow ridge high above Schwarz.
In the 20th century, most of the complex was brutally rebuilt and destroyed. Ongoing reconstruction has restored the Zeughaus with a unique collection of weapons.
