History
The stronghold was built on the site of the seat of the Reich ministerial offices and was expanded by local families. Renaissance transformations gave it its present-day division into the upper castle and the outer ward.
The museum combines the history of the building with the archeology of nearby Ilsenhöhle, the geology and art of the region.
