Reichsburg Kyffhausen

Remains of the imperial castle combined with the monumental Kyffhäuser monument. Kyffhausen łączy ruiny jednej z największych warowni Rzeszy, legendę Barbarossy i monumentalny pomnik cesarski nad Goldene Aue.

History

The powerful castle complex on the Kyffhäuser ridge was one of the largest Reich strongholds in medieval Germany. It was associated with the power of the Salians, the Hohenstaufens and the legend of Emperor Barbarossa.

In the 19th century, a monument to Emperor Wilhelm I was erected within the ruins, and today it dominates the landscape.

Średniowieczną skalę założenia odsłaniają relikty kolejnych części zamku, studnia i wieża Barbarossy. To ślady ośrodka związanego z dynastiami Saliów i Hohenstaufów, znacznie starszego niż dominujący dziś monument.

Pomnik Wilhelma I wprowadza XIX-wieczną opowieść o cesarstwie i narodowych mitach. Zestawienie obu warstw oraz panorama Goldene Aue czynią Kyffhausen miejscem refleksji nad sposobem wykorzystywania historii.
