History
The castle was built as the residence of the von Kranichfeld lords. The Reuss family rebuilt the medieval stronghold into a representative Renaissance castle.
After a fire in the 20th century, social reconstruction saved the main wings. Today, the exhibition helps to decipher the preserved traces of many construction phases.
Wystawa „Sehen Lernen” zachęca do czytania różnic w murze, śladów przekształceń i detali kolejnych faz budowy. Ruina i odbudowane skrzydła stają się dzięki niej materiałem do samodzielnego odkrywania.
Kaplica oraz dziedziniec ukazują reprezentacyjną stronę zamku, natomiast wieża otwiera widok nad doliną Ilm. To szczególnie ciekawa propozycja dla osób zainteresowanych ratowaniem zabytków i sposobem opowiadania ich niepełnej historii.
